Dear Cub Scout Leader,

Imagine the biggest Cub camp you’ve ever been on. Was it Cuboree?

Now imagine lots of those Cuboree camps going on together all at the same time.

That’s Australian Jamboree 2019 – the BIGGEST Scout event in Australia!

The 25th National Australian Scout Jamboree is on from 4 to 13 January 2019 at the brand new $100 million Bend Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend, the Murraylands, South Australia.

We’re writing to you as a Cub Leader to let you know that we’ll be sending an email and a letter to all Cubs in NSW who will be 10 and a half years old by the beginning of 2018.

We know that older Cubs have previously been disappointed that they missed out on an Australian Jamboree. Cubs, Cub Leaders, Scout Leaders and parents/caregivers are encouraged to talk about AJ2019 so the best decision for each individual Cub can be made.

We’ll be letting older Cubs know that if they check with their parents or caregivers, and also with the Cub and Scout Leaders at their Group, and if they all say that it’s okay, those Cubs could start going to Scouts from Term 1, 2018 and have the opportunity to go to AJ2019 when they are eleven and a half.

We’ll be advising those older Cubs to not rush their decision and to talk about the 12 days away at AJ2019. We’ll also let the Cubs know that they will not be able to work on their Gold Boomerang or Grey Wolf Award once they move up to Scouts because they’ll be working on the Scout Pioneer badge (or Milestone One and Stage 3 Core Outdoor Skills for YPR New Program ‘Pioneer’ Groups).

Cubs will need to decide by the end of the year so they can link up to Scouts if that is what they choose to do. If they do, they’ve got a year to get ready for AJ2019.

Here’s just some of your AJ2019 Experience!

stadium shows live nightly entertainment lots of food dance parties market day dress-ups high ropes concerts circus training flying and gliding land yachting, solar and pedal car racing on the V8 supercar track water activities on the nearby rivers BMX racing on the rally track

Scouts will also have the opportunity to enjoy three days of off-site activities in places that include the Murraylands, a wide game in Adelaide city and the River Torrens, and an overnight patrol activity at the Woodhouse Activity Centre in the Adelaide Hills.

Scouts will share this amazing adventure camping together as part of a Jamboree Troop of about six patrols (36 Scouts) and five adult leaders, along with 10,000 Scouts from all across Australia and the world who will together make the Jamboree campsite South Australia’s fourth largest town.

What about YOU? Are you ready for the fun, adventure and friendship?

AJ2019 isn’t just for Scout Section Leaders – all adult Leaders in Scouting are very welcome to apply to attend! Leaders will be assigned as a Line Leader or Service Leader, based on the preferences selected in their application.

A Group’s Scout Leaders will likely want to be the Line Leaders camping with the Scout Troop, but there’s so many opportunities to attend as a Service Leader and being part of the awesome Jamboree activities, or in the medical centre, marketing, administration, logistics, etc. This is the fantastic team who help run all other aspects of AJ2019.

Want to do next

Speak with your Group Leader/Leader in Charge, your fellow Cub Leaders, and the Scout Leaders in your Group to identify the Cub Scouts – especially those who are 10.5 or older at the end of 2017 – that you think are ready to go up to up to Scouts at the beginning of 2018. Many of those Cubs will also have a chance to go to AJ2022 so it’s up to those Cubs, their parents, and the Leaders if they want to/should attend AJ2019.
