Details Section of the A1s

It is important that the MAIN risk factors/details must be on the form and not in an attachment. This is for very strong legal reasons in that, in the event of an accident, we have to prove they got the information. Attachments are easily claimed to have not been received. However it's acceptable to use an attachment for other minor non risk info.

At the time of the new A1s coming in and at the AGM CCC the update suggested:

  1. That the details section guide would best be produced for each individual Section via their State Teams.
  2. Samples were handed out, and are being used by some almost word for word, but others seem to have fallen in a hole and leave themselves very exposed to litigation.
  3. It is time to revisit this and design a few samples (see attachment).
  4. Distribute them widely.

Here are some examples to show why this is necessary:

  • The mother who complained, though State, to me that no one told her that her son wouldn't be drinking Sydney tap water in camp.  Was deemed unreasonable.
  • The several parents who complained they were not told there would be abseiling. This was a warranted complaint.  Especially when the Leader advised his RC that to have told them about the abseiling meant fewer would have attended the camp. Glad there were no accidents.
