Guidelines for Leadership Activity

in

The following guidelines have been approved by the NSW Branch Mindari for use when assessing the acceptability of a leadership activity for the Australian Scout Medallion.

Please note:

  • The Project can be commenced once it has been signed off by the RC Scouts and the BC Scouts.
  • The Application form must be submitted and the activity approved BEFORE the activity is started.

The activity must not be part of the Award Scheme (eg Patrol camps and Activities are not sufficient to qualify as the Award Activity).

It must also contain the following elements:

Planning:
The what, how, who, when and where;
Coordination:
The identification of people, places and resources necessary to complete the Activity;
Delegation:
The assignment of tasks to other people who will be directed in the completion of their tasks by the Scout;
Allocation:
The efficient collection, distribution and utilisation of the resources needed to successfully complete the Activity;
Execution:
The actual conduct of the Activity and the performance of the Scout during this time;
Assessment:
A review of all aspects of the Activity by the Scout to determine the success of the Activity.

Obviously some of these elements will not have been completed when the proposal is being submitted, in particular the Allocation, Execution and Assessment elements, however the information regarding the project that is submitted for approval should contain sufficient detail to enable the elements to be recognised as part of the activity.
