Lone Rovers Not So Alone |
The NSW Lone Rover crew does not often manage to get together as they are based all over NSW. Events like AJ2010 provide an opportunity for the crew to meet, exchange ideas and perform their crew ceremonies. At AJ2010 they were able to invest two Squires and three Knights into the crew.

Becoming a squire marks the entry of a new crew member into the crew. Once the squire has completed certain challenges they are eligible to become a full member of the crew. This is achieved via the knighting ceremony which is the investiture of a Rover as a full member of the crew. As the Lone Rover crew are a traditional Rover crew their ceremony follows many aspects of medieval chivalry. The details of the ceremony are shrouded in secrecy in order to provide a sense of anticipation for Venturers advancing to the Rover section.
The Lone section is for Scouts, across all sections, who cannot attend a local group. This may be due to transport difficulties, cost or remoteness of location. For many country Scouts the nearest group is not within reasonable travelling distance. For others, especially Venturers and Rovers, their other commitments (such as work or school) prevent regular attendance. For these Scouts the Lone section provides a way for them to continue in Scouting with the support required to "do their best".
