Cataract

Jamboree Site Nearly Ready

Main Arena StageCataract Scout Park is a hive of activity as preparations continue for AJ2010. Across the Contingents and sub-camps tents are being erected, fences built and paths constructed. With only a day to go before the Scouts arrive there is much to do. Sometimes it doesn't look like it but we know it will be ready on time.

Site Maps Available

Cataract Photographs

To give you an idea of what Cataract Scout Park is like here are a few photos. These were all taken at the NSW State Rally. They mainly show the sub-camp areas which are indicative of the areas in which Jamboree troops will camp.

About the Site

Cataract Scout Park Logo160 Hectares of Adventure, Cataract Scout Park has been the site for two Australian and one World Jamboree. January saw 12,000 participants at AJ2001 camped at NSW's largest permanent Scout activities centre.

The site has also been used for hundreds of other events, ranging from major Scout and Guide camps, and major music festivals like Black Stump, through to training camps, outdoor education programs for school and getaways for corporate groups.

Likely Weather

January is a great time to camp at Cataract. On average the temperature will be around 30° during the day cooling off to 17° at night. This means that it is not too hot to do activities during the day and cool enough to sleep at night. Humidity tends to be lower than on the coast which makes it seem cooler. You do need to bring your raincoat as we can expect to have 2 or 3 days rain during Jamboree.

Like anywhere Cataract can have extremes of weather. Temperatures over 40° have been known in January. This is unusual but is something to plan for.

Where is Cataract?

Cataract Scout Park is an hour south of Sydney close to the town of Appin. Cataract is less than 30 minutes from Wollongong beaches and Lake Illawarra. There is easy road access from the west (Campbelltown) and the east (Bulli Tops) via Appin Road.
