Three Generations

There are 3 Generations of the Nickl Family attending this Jamboree as participants. Not only that but they all come from different Scouting districts and are in different areas at the Jamboree.

Lone Rovers Not So Alone

The NSW Lone Rover crew does not often manage to get together as they are based all over NSW. Events like AJ2010 provide an opportunity for the crew to meet, exchange ideas and perform their crew ceremonies. At AJ2010 they were able to invest two Squires and three Knights into the crew.

Medallion ScoutsA special ceremony took place this week at the Australian Jamboree, being held from 4 – 14 January at Cataract Scout Park, when four Scouts from 1st Caringbah Group were awarded the Australian Scout Medallion.

NSW Welfare Leaders Prepare

The NSW Contingent welfare leaders (CWLs) are responsible for overseeing the well-being of NSW Leaders and Scouts at AJ2010. The CWLs are all experienced leaders who have attended multiple Jamborees. Their combined experience and training is available to the leaders in Jamboree troops. This helps to give leaders and Scouts the best possible Jamboree experience.

Jamboree Site Nearly Ready

Main Arena StageCataract Scout Park is a hive of activity as preparations continue for AJ2010. Across the Contingents and sub-camps tents are being erected, fences built and paths constructed. With only a day to go before the Scouts arrive there is much to do. Sometimes it doesn't look like it but we know it will be ready on time.

Personal Gear List

The list of personal equipment which Scouts need to take to Jamboree is available in the parents handbook. It is also reproduced below. Please reference this list when packing for Jamboree. Once you're there you can't go back for anything you've forgotten.

About the Site

Cataract Scout Park Logo160 Hectares of Adventure, Cataract Scout Park has been the site for two Australian and one World Jamboree. January saw 12,000 participants at AJ2001 camped at NSW's largest permanent Scout activities centre.

The site has also been used for hundreds of other events, ranging from major Scout and Guide camps, and major music festivals like Black Stump, through to training camps, outdoor education programs for school and getaways for corporate groups.

Likely Weather

January is a great time to camp at Cataract. On average the temperature will be around 30° during the day cooling off to 17° at night. This means that it is not too hot to do activities during the day and cool enough to sleep at night. Humidity tends to be lower than on the coast which makes it seem cooler. You do need to bring your raincoat as we can expect to have 2 or 3 days rain during Jamboree.

Like anywhere Cataract can have extremes of weather. Temperatures over 40° have been known in January. This is unusual but is something to plan for.
