The Patrol Tent provides web site services to the NSW Scouting community. Services provided include web site design, construction and hosting. We also do software development for those more complex requirements. Work done to date has been for the Scout section. However if you are from another section please contact us regarding your requirements.

Services Provided

Services provided include:

Web Site Design

Your web site needs to match the overall branding of your event. We can take your other event materials and use these to design the site. This ensures that the web site colours, logos and overall "look and feel" match the event. If you don't yet have your event branding complete we can help you with this as well.

Once the branding is in place we take your requirements for a web site and create a design. As well as the branding aspects the design covers areas such as site navigation, type faces and graphic placement. The target audience needs to be taken into account. For example a design intended primarily for Scouts will differ from one intended for leaders.

The final area of site design relates to what the site will contain. This takes into account areas such as: is the site a simple brochure advertising an event, will there be a news section with event updtaes, is a photo gallery required. How it will be maintained and who will maintain it is also important, especially if the content is to be generated by the site community.

Web Site Construction

Once a site design has been agreed we can construct the site for you. The design process defines the requirements for the site. We then select a platform on which to build the site. For a site which is primarly a brochure this might be simply HTML pages. For more complex requirements a Content Management System (CMS) would be used. Photo gallerys, blogs and other functionality can be added onto the CMS solution.

The final step is to create the site on your web host. Where you will host the site is important as it has to support the platform being used. This needs to be taken into account when selecting the site platform.

Web Site Hosting

We have a limited amount of free web site hosting available. If your site is small and simple then we may be able to host it for you. If we can't then we will assist you to find a suitable web hosting service.

Software Development

As well as building web sites we also undertake software development. If you need a small computer system for a particular purpose then we can write this for you. These will generally be web based applications although not necessarily delivered via the Internet.

An example of the software development we do is the scoring system for State Rally. This is used to register patrols for the event. The registration process is delivered via the Internet. During the Rally the application is run on-site with scores being entered throughout the week-end and results generated at the end.

We can cater for most requirements for small development projects.
